How to do EFT
EFT is an easy to learn healing technique which will be summarized here.
One of the beautiful things about EFT is that you use the same process
every time, no matter what the issue, illness or problem is that you are
working on. Once you learn the basics of EFT, you can apply it to any
issue. EFT, is very simple to learn and perform, and I encourage you to
practice, and be persistent when using EFT. Don’t give up.
To do EFT, you pinpoint the issue that is causing you discomfort or
distress. Then you use your fingertips to tap on specific acupuncture
points while you are thinking about your issue.
Following is a detailed description of the Shortcut formula for EFT.
Following are the simple steps to EFT :
1. The EFT Setup
- Pick a specific issue or problem that you want to tackle with EFT. The
first few times you try EFT, start with something small so that you can
become familiar with the procedure and notice how it feels in your body,
mind and energy system. I do not suggest that you start with the biggest
problem that you are facing. Practice EFT, have some success with it
before you tackle the biggies.
- Rate how much discomfort or distress you are feeling right now about
that issue. Rate your discomfort on a scale of 0 (no discomfort at all)
to 10 (intense discomfort) and make a note of this rating as you will
check in with it later.
- Create an affirmation statement, or Setup Phrase for your specific
issue. Just insert your issue in the blank in the Setup Phrase which
remains the same for each issue you tackle with EFT.
Even though I have THIS PROBLEM, I deeply and completely accept myself.
Setup phrases
Following is a partial list of examples of Setup Phrases to help you get
started. Review these Setup Phrases as they will give you an idea of the
wide range of issues that EFT is known to have resolved. The possible
issues that you can address with EFT are endless.

Using your index and middle finger of either hand, continuously tap on
the Karate Chop Point (KC) which is located in the middle of
the fleshy part on the side of either hand. While you are continuously
tapping, repeat your Setup Phrase three times, preferably out loud and
with some vigor. It does not matter whether or not you believe the words
in your Setup Phrase, just say them anyway.
2.
The EFT Tapping Sequence (Shortcut Version)
- After tapping the KC point and repeating the Setup Phrase 3 times,
continue to focus on your issue by repeating a Reminder Phrase which
briefly describes THIS PROBLEM. For example, "this fear of dogs", or
"this nervousness about my audition".
- Tap on the following EFT Points, 6 or 7 times each, while repeating
the Reminder Phrase. You can use the fingertips of the middle and index
fingers and you can tap with either hand, on either side of the body.
Repeating the Reminder Phrase keeps you tuned in to the problem you are
working on.
- Tapping on this series of 8 points while repeating the Reminder Phrase
is called a Round of EFT. By tapping these acupuncture points while
thinking about your issue, you correct and balance the disrupted energy
in your meridians that is causing your symptoms.
3. The Check-in
- When you have completed one round of EFT, stop and check in with the
problem you were working on. Rate your current level of discomfort or
distress that you are feeling right now. Again, use a scale of 0 (no
discomfort at all) to 10 (intense discomfort).
- Sometimes just one round of tapping with EFT will bring your problem
down to a zero. Sometimes is takes two or more rounds of tapping. Your
level of discomfort may have gone from a 7 down to a 3. If you still
have some discomfort or distress, repeat the Setup and Tapping Sequence
but with an adjustment to your wording to reflect that you are still
working on this problem. Your new Setup Phrase would be:
Even though I STILL have SOME OF THIS PROBLEM, I deeply and completely
accept myself. The new Reminder Phrase would be THIS REMAINING PROBLEM.
The key is to be persistent and to keep tapping until you no longer feel
distress or discomfort. If you are having trouble getting your
discomfort to a zero, then try being more specific. For example, instead
of stating the problem as "knee pain", try using a phrase like "this
intense, hot, stabbing pain in my right knee".
While EFT is a simple and easy to follow procedure, the human system is
very complex. Most people do have success very quickly, sometimes within
minutes. Sometimes, complex issues and illnesses take more time, effort
and detective work to find the perfect thing to tap on. I also encourage
you to be persistent and not give up. Often, an
EFT practitioner can be a great support to get you tapping in the right direction.
